School Program

School-aged children staying at Canuck Place, both those receiving clinical care as well as their siblings, attend a school located right in the Hospice

Funded by the provincial government and managed by the Vancouver School Board, the school has a full-time teacher, a special education assistant and volunteers.

The school program is intended to support a normal school routine and to provide children with opportunities to learn, explore, create, discover and develop their abilities. Some children work on a regular academic program, while others work on adapted or modified programs.

Communication between the Canuck Place teacher and the child’s regular teacher allows children to keep up with schoolwork and to work on the goals outlined in their Individual Education Plan.
