Canuck Place has more than 300 active volunteers, aged 16 to 81, from all walks of life and with varied talents, skills and abilities.
Our volunteers provide the most fundamental act of philanthropy – they give of themselves.

Canuck Place volunteers support children, families and the professional care team in a variety of ways -- for a complete listing, visit the Volunteer Roles section.

Canuck Place Volunteers assist in bereavement/outreach, office reception, practical support such as kitchen and housekeeping, transportation, gardening, outdoor maintenance, the school room and library, and special events.

We also have Family & Peer volunteers who provide companionship that children and families may be missing while outside their home environment. Family Volunteers receive 30 hours of Hospice training.
Note: Peer volunteers must be at least 16 years old and will provide social and recreational support to the children in the Hospice.

Volunteers in the Hospice work in three shifts of four hours each, between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, seven days a week, every day of the year.
Volunteers working at special events work as needed.

No. Our volunteers focus on enhancing the quality of life of our children and families by helping to create a home-like environment and providing added opportunities for activities and interaction with others.

Volunteers enrich the Hospice in many important ways. They provide companionship and support to children and families that may be missing the support systems that help them at home. Volunteers provide a helping hand, a listening ear and a caring heart. They are indispensable members of our interdisciplinary team.

She will send you an information package and application form that you fill out and send back.

Selected individuals will then be contacted for an interview when the opportunity becomes available. Those candidates who are chosen for a placement must undergo a criminal record check, reference checks, sign an oath of confidentiality, and complete their training prior to placement.

Yes. Canuck Place takes enormous pride in its volunteers and supports them in a variety of ways. We provide continuing education and recognition gifts, and hold special events to honour our volunteers.
